It is noisy. Mine also vibrates, how much depends on rpms. My old Motorguide was much quieter and had no vibration... I still prefer my Ultrex. Spotlock more than makes up for the negatives. The fish don't seem bothered by it.

If the noise bothers you it is going to effect your fishing confidence regardless of whether it spooks the fish or not.

I’ve been using the Ultrex going on my 3rd season and haven’t noticed any difference in spooking fish. I fish 3 reservoirs total. 1 gets more pressure and the fish aren’t spooked as easy. I can fish at blast off area during a tournament and Hook up before all boats have passed. On the least pressured of the 3 you definitely have to keep farther out and make longer casts. Sometimes it’s just the Fish!

The noise of the electric steer is insignificant compared to the vibration put off by the prop. They can find a threadfin shad in muddy water. They know you are there regardless.

Haven't noticed any differences, I've caught fish off beds with it moving.

No problems using my Ultrex fishing in shallow water. As was mentioned earlier the steering noise is upstairs.

So many comments along these lines that make me think: The drivetrain is above water, but it's connected to a conductor that is IN the water. Wouldn't the sounds transmit through the shaft into the water? Have you ever dove in while music was playing INSIDE a boat? It sounds pretty clear underwater.......
That said, I haven't noticed any negatives so far, but not sure how I would tell if I am scaring fish away. Sure, I catch fish shallow with my ultrex running, but did I scare any off? Only live sonar would be able to tell that........
