    Jackplate install

I just purchased a 6” plate for my TR186. Ideas on how many holes from the top I should mount my Merc 150 optimax. Also ideas on PTP. I should start at. Thanks for any suggestions.

These hulls seem to run better up high. I would probly try to set it up where the middle of the jack plate adjustment is around 3.5-4” prop to pad so you have equal up or down and you wont have it jacked all the way up if you end up in the 3” and under range. Not sure how different that hull is but my 18trx likes to run tight at 2.25-2.5” at higher speeds.

Well now it’s going to cost some more money as I’m going to have to replace the 4blade aluminum prop that was on it when I bought the boat. Lol. The big difference I noticed so far is when I make a turn while on plane I no longer have any blowout issues. I also noticed that that I can’t can’t get as much bow lift before this prop starts to lose grip and rpm’s start to spike.

I can't believe the previous owner ran it with an aluminum prop.

I was thinking the same thing. That definitely has gotta go. A tempest prop probly be the way to go.

I had a triton TR 186, you’re going to want a tempest plus 21 pitch all holes plugged ....3” PTP

I was told he hit something and broke lower unit. It was replaced with a brand new one and he didn’t want to spend the money for S/S.

Is this the best prop to start with. I have a trophy 23 back home I thought might work but maybe to much for this setup.

Unrelated to the original post but I would love if that's spot on! My 18 pro has the same hull if I'm correct and I'll be running a 21 tempest plus next season

I'm running a 23 Tempest Plus with two wide open vents and one partially plugged. I have a good hole shot and top end I'm getting low to mid 60's mph depending. I usually have two or three passengers, equipment and 1/2 tank of fuel and empty well.

All I can tell you is I had a 21 pitch on my TR 186 with 150 horse OptiMaxx with a 6 inch jack plate. Hole shot was incredible, boat was 100% stable, and I could get 60 miles an hour out of it. I did have a hole shot plate on it, not sure if that made much difference or not. I loved that boat.

Trophy prop has a smaller bore. I think you have to run some sort of exhaust ring behind the prop to run a trophy on the bigger 150+hp gearcases.

The one I have has the exhaust ring. I took it off my other boat engine.

I think this is what I need. Your performance would be perfect for me. My boat is the exact same set up. The jack plate I bought came with a hole shot plate also.

I would try the Trophy now, you will never get any performance out of an aluminum prop.

    I'd put a 23" tempest on it.

How much was the installation cost for the jack plate if you don’t mind me asking?
