He meant to type 1860. I’m not aware any 1760 Legend SS hulls. The cookie cutter bass boat setups like I have come in 1852, 1860 and 1960. There are also some 2070 custom jobbers out there as well.

........ I was wondering! I know it seems like a lot of these river jet rigs are boarderline 'custom order' it seems. I was thinking that 'Whitaker201' 's buddy had some kind of custom order that could take a 150/105, and I was just betting it had to be a speed demon in the jet-world.

You guys got me wondering how a jet would perform on that Xpress I got ....... and how much HP I could get away with. The hull maxes with a 50-tiller, but guys around here are known to run Yamaha 2 stroke 70-tillers and Yamaha & Merc 2 stroke 90-tillers on this hull.

Very few jet boats setup for fishing are going to be considered "fast" in the jet boat world. There are guys running 300 Mercury jets on tin can 1852 hulls that weigh nothing that will break the 60mph mark with ease. Those are built for one thing and that is to go as fast as possible. The ones that want to REALLY go fast jump over to the inboard world. Once you go down that route, speed is limited by how much money you want to put in to the motor. Gator jet boats and Shoalrunner are two common brands of inboard.

This is one of those boats built for going fast that I was talking about.

Most of us jet guys don’t care about speed, just depth.

    Yep,

I have a 2020 Blazer 19-56 pretty light weight, perf floor etc, with a 2005 XR6 150/105 jet - 42-43 mph top speed @ 5500 RPM this is fully rigged for bass fishing.

Exactly. If I can get 30mph, I'm content. I have no real use for a 40mph rig on the river I fish, but I'm a motorhead so "go bigger" is always said in my brain.

Another detail in answering your question is length vs. width...assuming we're talking about "fishing" boats and "typical" sizes...17'-19' long and 52" - 60" bottom width. Bottom width plays a bigger factor in speed vs. length. For example, ST041986 has a 1860 and I have 1960, we have the same motors, we run about the same speed...give or take. Now, a guy with our similar setup but having a 1856 or 1956 would be faster...3-4 mph faster. Obviously there are weight factors and HP limits but, generally speaking, a 56" bottom will out run a 60" and a 52" bottom will out run a 56"...given similar setups. The trade off when dropping in bottom width is draft.

Ok what is your top speed 1 person loaded for fishing ?
As I posted above my 1956 Blazer with 150/105 3 AGM batteries fishing gear & 22 gallons of gas - top speed GPS 42 - 43 mph. I am sure your Weldcraft is at least 200 # heavier but definitely a nicer boat.

Our rigs run around 40mph, give or take a few MPH depending on wind, current, etc. The fastest I have seen was 44mph, but that was heading down stream across a shallow riffle so there wasn't much of the boat in the water. One of my friends had a Blazer very similar to yours with a 150 Yamaha Vmax that would hit 47-48 in that same riffle. It ran good, but it was rattled and just didn't feel nearly as solid as our Weldcrafts. It would blow my doors off though.

As ST said above...with the same load you mentioned my 1960 is about 38-39. A little faster running down stream and a little slower running up.

Nope, he ordered a 1760 from Cowtown. Not sure if he had to special order or not but that is what he has. With his 150/105 etec he is somewhere in the 40-45 range but it jumps out of the hole in less than a boat length.

As was mentioned already it is more about draft and how shallow you can run and still maneuver through obstacles.

Are you sure it wasn't a 1756? Weldcraft doesn't even list a 1760 model hull on their website, but they do show a 1756.

Sorry it's taken me so long to come back to this ......
I guess what I was trying to say in my last post (#23), that I would think that combination of boat (17' w/ 150/105) is 'fast' in terms of what the jet-fishing boat world would look at as a fast boat since I know every boat that's 150/105 rated seems to be 18' instead.

I know for you guys y'all are mostly concerned with draft depth and maneuverability, but for me, speed does matter. 40mph is a minimal for me, but that is due to a lot of our rivers get kinda long (or at least to me they do). Thus all aluminum boats for me need to run +40 or I get to looking for something else. I was just thinking about the few areas that we have that a jet would be very beneficial. I don't think it would win you any tournaments around here, but it would get you into some places that most boat fishermen are not reaching. Some of these areas are only accessible to bank fishermen or people kayak fishing (mostly on float trips).

Guys ....... THANKS for all the good info since my last post. I really enjoyed learning what size/hp you guys have and what realistic speeds y'all see out of them. THANKS again!!!!
