Hello, I have an opportunity to live on the lake next winter while I work in Columbia, I used to fish Murray back in the 90's so it has been a while. I heard they draw the lake down, how far down and how is the bass fishing this time of year? I also plan to make weekend trips to Santee as it used to be my favorite place to fish before moving to PA, I actually got engaged on the water there :).
Murray is typically drawn down 6-8' for winter pool. Striper fishing is very good during this time frame. Bass fishing can be tough until early march in my experience. However, you cant tell it at the tournament weigh ins. Even after getting 7-9 inches of rain, 400+ bass boats and water rising several feet in a few days, it still took 25lbs to win Carolina Bass Challenge this past saturday. I have a tough time down there in winter myself. I just havent cracked the winter code yet.
