    Speed loss in turns

My ZX225 is flat out awesome in straight lines running 74-75 mph. In turns and winding areas of the lake my speed drops down in to the low to mid 50's. Is this normal or is there something I'm not doing to keep my speed up? Last tournament I smoked a Triton with a 225 Merc out of the hole and top end, but he caught me in the turns and almost beat me to my first spot. I have tried trimming down, but that actually makes speed loss worse.

My 21I/250HPDI/25T1 did the exact same thing. It was nearing 70 mph on a long, straight run and would be doing 55 in gentle curve. My Phoenix 21 PHX/250 Verado/25Fury4 only has a 10 mph drop in the same turns. My buddies 2200 Gambler barely lost any speed in the same corners.

I wouldn't expect to lose 20mph in turns. My previous boat would lose 5 mph in turns. I'm curious to know what others are seeing in turns and what you are doing to keep your speed in turns.

I'm sure he talks with buddies at the ramp. And can see/agree with the statements.

Now the boat that caught you, the driver may have left it trimmed and pinned and barely made the corners but he may not even know he could have crashed it with a ripple from a minnow. Maybe you tucked the motor a bit more than necessary that can explain the 20mph

I think I only lose about 10mph in most turns. Then again, it depends on how sharp the turn is.

If you aren't tucking in the engine (trimming down) in a turn at high speed your asking for big trouble! Bow hook is a very bad feeling....

What kind of turns are we talking here? I have a ZX200, and don't lose too much but they aren't aggressive turns. As you know these boats don't start picking up top end speed until it's trimmed out. Turning too sharp is naturally going to drop the bow a bit and cause you to slow down. Be safe.
