Fuel leaking from bottom of cap

    Has anyone had this issue?

I have a 2003 Ranger VS185 and fuel leaks out of the bottom of the gas cap no matter how tightly it is screwed on.

I am wondering if it is just as simple as replacing the gas cap or if it is something more than that.

    thanks for any help.

Yep,there should be an O ring on the cap,if not get a red one,it’s gasoline proof. If you do have one, make sure it’s not buggered up.

thanks guys, there is an O-Ring and it doesn't seem to be dry rotted. But, I have started tightening the cap as hard as I can and that seemed to eliminate the leak. I never had to do that before so maybe I need to replace the O-Ring.

Wouldn’t be surprised that that would help. O-rings can get hard through oxidation and not squeeze down the same as before.
