    Well, you can take solace in the fact that you aren't the only one. I use the same rational you do. You can always reel slower, but there is a limit to how fast you can pick up line. Tangential somewhat, but years ago, I read an article by Rick Clunn and he was of the same mindset. His rational was to keep as much of his equipment as possible the same, so there wouldn't be any casts that would be different from any other. Essentially keeping continuity. Oddly enough, I just watched a video a few days ago of a pro (who's name escapes me) and he said essentially the same thing.

    6.4 ratio for me. Rarely do I have to burn on spinnerbait.

    Shimano Chronarch 100BPV 5.1:1 with a Loomis SBR 864 7'2" Spinnerbait rod. Best setup I have used for slow rolling a 1oz. spinnerbait.
    I throw same reel on a Loomis SBR 813 6'9" Spinnerbait for 1/2oz and 3/4oz spinnerbaits.
