    Cutting Carpet??

I'm started my carpet replacement project last night. Removed all the hatches and stuff, and now just need to start ripping up the old carpet and clean up the residue.

For those of you who have done this before. What did you use to cut the new carpet with? Razor or heavy shears/scissors? The new carpet is 24oz syntec.

I plan to use Weldwood contact cement from Lowes/Home Depot, besides the fact that there is no wiggle room to shift the carpet once it's down are there any other factors that would cause me to relook using weldwood? Also, the weldwood comes in a gel...yes or no on the gel?

    Thanks,

    Robert

Carpet Knife. Which is a razor blade double sided. One cut one side. So each blade flip and rotate after one cut. 4 cuts per blade.

I used scissors, good ones. Sure it took a little longer but I'm kind of anal about a straight cut. Plus I like to mark it all out and bring it in the house and cut it.

I've done a few boats now and that's just what I like to do. I also like to use 3m 90 and a lot of guys use something different. I just do what works best for me. The 3m sticks fast and works great for the edges. I don't have to clamp anything.

good set of titanium shears is your best friend ( lowes) no on the gel, get your self a throw away harbor freight spray gun pref a 1.8 tip spray both back of carpet and deck or lid let tack up and apply will have no adhesion issues.

Razor blades, and when possible back cut it, that's cut the backing not straight down on the carpet. I go through 20-30 blades when i do a boat, for me I buy 100 packs, you can pick them up on ebay or amazon for 10 bucks or less, and they are always handy. This is the type of know I use, quick change plade, and I don't stor blades in the knife, I put them in a cup to get at them fast.https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail...YNCg&gclsrc=ds

Carpet knife and a good set of scissors, is what I used and don't be afraid to change blades , cheap enough and do a good job as well. Take your time and remember to mark the carpet to make sure it is all running the same way .

Good, long, sharp scissors. I found some on Amazon, Teflon type coating. Even after all those cuts mine are still sharp, $11.99.
