    Patoka First Timer

Hello from Missouri, I am looking to vacation here with the family and our own boat come this summer. What is the fishing like? Anything/anywhere to stay away from? Looking at those floating cabins at the Patoka Marina, anyone ever been there? Reviews or thoughts?

I’m bringing my young family and hoping to find other activists to do as well. Anything to eat in the are?

Not sure what the fishing will be like this summer. It has been pretty bad the last couple years, but it seemed to improve some this past fall. If you can, stay away on the weekends due to boat traffic. There are many idle zones on the lake you can hide from the traffic a little, but you still have to deal with the boat ramp stupidity. If you are there in the middle of the week it should be more peaceful. There is a park with walking and bike trails on the patoka property. There is a casino about 20 miles north of the lake, if thats your thing. Nice area, nice lake, just crowded on the summer weekends.

33rd and brick is a nice restaurant in frenchlick I believe it is Larry Birds or just themed as Larry Bird. You also have the casino in the area don't know if you can do with kids or not since I don't do casinos

We have a floating cabin rented for the last week of April to the first week of May 2020. We have never fished it before and hoping to find them in the pre spawn mode. A friend of ours rented one of the floating cabins last year (mid summer) and had a blast. It was mainly a family trip and not so much of a fishing trip but it sounds like the cabins are awesome. I know at one time several years ago it was arguably one of the best Bass fisheries in Indiana along with Lake Monroe and Turtle Creek. We're going to have a good time either way. If anyone has any tips for Patoka Bass fishing for late April to the first of May would be very much appreciated, thanks. Tight lines and good fishing to all in 2020.

Sounds like a good review. The cabins look nice and something competent different then around here.

I will add your hitting the lake at a really good time. Drop me a PM before you go and I’ll at least give you the scoop on what stage the fish are in, and what type of water you need to be fishing. That time of year just knowing if there are fish in beds, some off, etc can help. If the water is up (which it probably will be) the lake will have ton of shallow bushes to fish.

Please post a review of the floating cabins when you’re done. They look really neat and should be a Blast.

And I will say I think you’re staying in the best area of the lake to fish. That general area of the cabins give or take a mile or two in any direction has probably produced more winning stringers than anywhere. Don’t feel you have to go far.

Also for the young ones, you can catch all the bluegill, yellow bass, crappie you want right of your dock of the cabin. I suggest you bring plenty of bread/chips and chum the area right at your door. Your little ones will be able to catch all the bluegill they can handle. Those fish just live around the marina cause they get fed all the time. You might even get them to tangle with one of those big carp that live in the marina if you chum your area. That would be a blast for them.

Thanks ( catch5 ). I will touch base with you before I head that way. We were hoping to catch them just before they go on the nest. We usually head to Dugger,IN every spring for the last 35plus years and decided to do something different this year as our group keeps getting smaller the older we get. I really appreciate any info you may have on the pattern they may be on, thanks again.

Yeah, bought the launch permit and state park pass last month, wouldn't want to cheat the state out of some cash.... Launch permit, Park Pass, Register Boat, Plate the trailer, and Fishing License. $400 just to go fishing for the year. " Pay To Play "
