    20 xrd build suggestions!

I am wanting to order a 20 xrd, would love a 21sst but it will not fit in my garage. I need your help with what trailer and motor setup. I know I want the Mercury 4 stroke. Would you get the pro xs 250 or the Mercury racing 250R and what lower unit and prop. I am an avid tournament angler so I will be using the new Garmin trolling motor and 1-12ft. Minn Kota talon. I am coming over from Bass Cat from the last few boats and have never had a trailer issue so that is something that is important as well. Thanks in advance.

I had a 300xs on my 20xd. If I was going to buy the V8 it would be the 300 R same motor as the 250 o ly + on the HP . Unless your restricted by tournament rules.

Definitely a 250r or 300r just to get the sportmaster. There is no way I would put a torquemaster on a 20 footer and you can't get a sportmaster on the pro xs

250r minimum....rather have the 300r. If your not around any salt just get the Boatmate tandem with the ungraded epoxy. I’d also get the wide tire/rim and fenders.

Yes I will be restricted to a 250 hp for tournaments. I have been in a Bullet before and loved it. So far the 250R is the consensus. What is a good starting point for prop selection.

    20 xd with a 250R. 1:75 1 gear. I'd say a 28 -29. I ran a very stiff 28 hydromotive on mine with a 300. And 1:75. Ran real good with a tournament load.

I think I’d opt for the the 1.6 something year set....better prop selection. JMO

It would make for better prop selection. I think there are some guys having some problems with the 1:60-1 cases on the top end. That's what I hear anyway. At least on the 300R i didn't get to run mine long enough to find out. On a 20xD it probably would be a better choice.

I had a 20xrd/225pm for 5 years , my opinion the Mercury four strokes are to heavy for that hull. I would talk to someone that has that combo before you buy one. Call Tom he might have some info on who has one .

I wonder the same. 3.0 liter heavy enough.
Talking to one of the premier boat builders
He said merc lied on the 4 stroke weights.
    Maybe lithium to offset?

I really didn't see much difference yet in the swap from a 300XS to the 300R on the SST. But I did run a 300XS on my 20 with lead batteries but had the jack plate stuffed full of foam.

If I still had my 20’er I’d have a flashed 200 SHO on it......I’m Yamaha biased though LOL.
