AMS Marine oil for my ProXS

I have a 2014 200hp ProXS and I was at a boat show this weekend. I looked at the AMS Marine 2 Stroke Synthetic oil.

Just wondering if any of you have had experience with this oil or use it currently in a ProXS?

I do a lot of fishing on a idle speed lake so I am hoping that a synthetic will work well to keep deposits down.
Still plan to used QuickKleen and quickcare in my fuel.

    Thank for your feedback...

If you are talking about Amsoil. I’ve been using HP synthetic in both of my outboards for years and will not switch.

Ask Don over in the Merc 3.0 forum. I have the same motor and would be interested in the response over there.

I run Amsoil in every 2 cycle equipment I own. I use to work for the largest hyd cylinder manufacturer in country and we tested every oil made for our machines and Amsoil always had high ratings. I decided when I bought a boat I’d try it and I’ve been using it for years.

    Thanks for the input everyone...

Do I need to purge the DFI oil or run it really low before adding the AMSoil?

The AMSoil rep I talked to said to run it low with existing oil and fill with AMSoil and it would be fine.

I am guessing that those using the AMSoil in their engine, use the AMSoil lower unit lubricant?

Anyone happen to know how much lubricant is needed for a 200ProXS lower unit.

I dont believe he recommends any full synthetic lubricants for any merc outboards. All mercury approved lubricants atr sythetic blends. Not saying amsoil isnt good oil because it is. Personal preference on whether to make the switch or not.

My Opti is going on 20 years using Amsoil in engine and LU and zero problems. Also been using Amsoil for all the premix yard tools. Check the BBC sponsors page, good guy to deal with, has good pricing and can answer all your questions.

We use Amsoil in almost everything now. Can't find a problem with it. I have gotten stuck using other oil (not sythetic) in my boat engine and I noticed more smoke and more sputtering after long idles. I take more measures now to make sure the Amsoil is in it.

It should take 28-30 oz of gear lube if memory serves me correct.

That's close. It doesn't take a full quart.

I would suggest that you use only Mercury brand Optimax DFI oil
