Just wondering who's gonna be the first to run a 450R?
Just wondering who's gonna be the first to run a 450R?
I think its to heavy for any Allison. It weighs over 600 pounds if I remember correctly. A guy tried it on a 21'10" Bullet but, it was to heavy and he couldn't get it to run right.
It’s over 700#.

Hasn’t there been a few already whose motors had been modified that were at least 450hp ?
currently boatless

Just make it a drag boat to 100 similar to the old 2002s. You are they guy to do it by they way
I did see a grandsport forsale recently that has a 300r on the back that id be curious to see in the water/see run.

i know there is a xb2003 with the new 300 v8 on it down south (LA) guys says it runs over 100 with 4 people in boat
450R goes on a tuna boat.
300R weight is actual 561 lbs weighed with cowling and fluids
450R is 686 lbs same way
Difference is 125 lbs..if you swap AGM batteis out for a Lithium batteries, you can cut that extra weight to 0...I’ve put entirely too much thought into this matter!

450R weight is 721lbs to the 561 of the 300R. Still same logic. Some batteries and gas.

Ok so your saying the location where we add or subtract the weight doesn’t matter? I beg to differ. My boat is actual proof of it.
just an observation here.
when first got the new bassport I mounted the 300XS on it and all 4 batteries were lithium. it was the first allison I ever had rigged that would not backwash the deck on shut down even with water in live well--- heard of some , but I never had one.
That all changed when I mounted the 250R and replaced the cranking battery with an AGM.
Now it backwashes with just me, no water and minimal fuel.
It makes a difference in some areas and not as big of difference in other areas, that will obviously change with the boat type and loading.
Its a lot of weight to try and offset, but if someone wants to play with it I'm sure with enough setup work it could be made to work. I think the weight is going to shave speed and acceleration, it may out punch the 300R, but the price to do it may not be inline with the cost because the weight is holding it back from achieving much better numbers.
People have said you can't run 3L on the 2002 and 2003 and those that are doing it get them to run. It's just time and willingness to push the limits.

River rocket- after more research, you are correct on 450R weight..that’s another 30+ pounds. I’ve looked at buying one hard but the weight difference, the money difference just can’t be justified IMO...plus, we’d have to order a 20” mid and if you didn’t like the motor, it’d be almost impossible to resale for the fact that all the offshore guys are running 25” and 30’” mids..now if Mercury ever releases their rumored naturally aspirated 400R, I think we’ll have a much better option..

At some point we are going to find the limits of our "Bass " type hulls at that point it won't be pretty. I'm good with a 300 for the time being.

i agree. I looked hard as well and just can’t justify it. I was told before the 450 came out that they were going to do several things to it that would keep the small boat guys from getting it. Weight and price. They accomplished that. I can talk myself past the weight but not the price. I could get a second 300r for the difference.
As mentioned I think at some point the hull is pushed beyond its limits. The weight will kill the hole shot. 1.6 gears won’t help. The HP will overcome it but if I had to bet it would be a draw at best vs the 300r. The high mids it will pull as will the top end. But it’s still fighting its weight on this boat. I have no issue running 90-95 for miles in the XB21. at 100 that isn’t as appealing and at 104/5 I wouldn’t be running it for long distances. So for me the 450 just doesn’t seem to justify the high price. I think the 300R 1.75 will run with it up to the 90’s. After that the 300 runs up into the 100’s. The 450 will push farther, but it’s pretty much a useless zone. For me anyway.

It wont be long and someone will flash a 300R to 350 -- 400 -- ???
Like already stated it could get deadly.
