2019 RT188 Console or Ram Mount for Helix 9

I just took advantage of the 2019 excess inventory and purchased a 2019 Ranger RT188 up here in Northern Canada. The dealer is recommending I mount my Helix 9 to the right of the console rather than on the console itself. They say a console mount will suffer from problems with glare on the screen versus the ability to adjust the angles if mounted on a Ram double ball mount. He also mentioned a concern about the flimsiness of the stock console material.

I don't have a tilting steering wheel so I am also concerned about the view of the bottom of the screen being obstructed by the steering wheel. I'm 5'-11".

Does anyone have any honest opinions about flush mounting onto the console with the 2019 RT188? I do prefer the look on the console and really dislike the idea of having a big blank space on the console. Are my dealers concerns valid, especially with the sun glare on the screen? I know there are other options for mounts on the console but I'm focusing only on flush or the side.

Check into a BBT mount for the console, I think you will like it, Bass Boat Technologies

I didn’t care for my side mounted Ram on the last boat. I got tired of taking it on and off every trip. I have a HDS 7 in dash and no issues. If you’re going to use a mount I agree with something like BBT

Can't really comment specifically on your boat/situation but I have no glare/obstruction issue with my flush mounted Carbon 7 on my 2015 178

Now that i have had both setups console mounted hands down. Mine isnt flush mounted on the new boat but inlike it centered in front of me. I had the big 2.25” ram mount on the old boat and it worked fine but in really really rough stuff as the rubber got older and harder it would move some.

If steering wheel clearance with the in dash mounting is a concern you can always get a spacer to go between the wheel and the helm. Precision Sonar is one company that sells them.
I have a Triton and I have an HDS9 On a Ram mount on the side and another one at the console. If I only had one it would be on the console especially when running down the lake at speed.

I flush mounted a Lowrance HDS7, but when I upgraded to an HDS9, it was too large to fit. I bought a Bass Boat Technologies Mount and am very pleased with it. It comes with a 3 inch wheel spacer to provide finger space. Pricy, but very well designed and manufactured.

I have a helix 9 on a Ram Mount, and I'd do that again. I like that It's easy to remove at the end of the day.

I have the RT198 with a Elite 9 dash mounted. There are a few instances where the sun will create glare, but with that said, I would not want it side mounted. That does not mean I won't add a side mounted unit at some point for looking for structure, but for running it is the console hands down.

I have the helix 9 flush mounted in console. I didn’t like the look of big blank area not being utilized. Actually drove me crazy I really like it and no glare issues

Do any of you guys with flush mounts worry about theft?

Not really, I used security bolts with lock nuts and its a tight fit up in there. Its pretty much a 2 person job to get it out. I guess anything is possible but I figure most people would move along once they figured out what they were up against.

Do you have any specifics on how you mounted your Helix to your dash? I have an older 898 on a Ram mount and I think it has died so I will probably replace it with a Helix 9 and would like to dash mount it.

I bought the flush mount kit for humminbird helix 9/10. It is very sturdy and has a template included for cutting dash. The 9 & 10 have the same footprint so if you want a little bigger, 10 will fit as well. it is a tight fit and fills the large blank on dash but my cover still attaches and stays on at highway speeds.
