Just doing some early spring re-rigging and pulled out my old Veritas Wrinch rod. I had two of the 7'6" rods that got on sale thinking I'd use them for frogging and punching. They didn't work that well for that but they are perfect for my A-rigs. They have just enough tip to cast 1-1 1/4 oz a-rigs without wearing you out. I've had to have my buddy repair them a couple times and he just shakes his head. I think I have more invested in repairs than the initial purchase cost.

My son has a IM8 FLW rod that he bought at WalMart for 29.00 16 years ago. It amazes me how good that rod feels. He's caught a ton of fish with that rod. Even though he's got an arsenal of Shimano's he can't get rid of it.

My old favorite is a 7 ft medium action BPS bionic blade rod. It is a first edition rod. I use it for pitching brush hogs in shallow cover. It's a little light for the purpose but I enjoy using it.

I have a Shimano Convergence that has stood the test of time. It’s marked as a “jig and worm” rod but I bought it for a jerk bait rod. It’s a bit heavy but it’s everything I want in a jerkbait/small topwater rod. Spent a lot of money on rods to replace it but I use it all the time.

I have an old Diawa VIP 6'6" crankbait rod that must be 35 years old . I wouldn't ever think of replacing it, the perfect square bill rod for me.

And use the Emotion rods as well. I even do real good with their baits I use.

I have two of them! One is a Pflueger Trion 6'8" medium extra fast that I bought years ago at a boat show for like $40. It works great for jerkbaits and smaller top waters like poppers! The other is an old Berkley Series One, the dark gray with purple lettering model that works great for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits!

Those rods from that era are excellent!

12 y.o. Carrot Stix 7’ med crankin rod. Several Ducketts I’ve replaced guides on. The action and toughness on those blanks are really good.

A Abu Garcia rod. Forgot the model it has wore off. Bought five of them in the early 90's. Have one left. The other four broke over time. Love them rods.

I have 3 K-Mart Sportfisher Boron pistol grip rods from about 1986. 5 1/2 footers. They’ve somehow survived cleats, box lids, and truck doors for all these years. I paid $10 each. My favorite fly rod is a Cabela’s Three Forks 3 wt. $22 for the rod, reel, and line in the Bargain Cave.
