I spent the first 37 years of my life living in Chicago or the South Suburbs and I vividly remember the period from late November until March as being the longest 3 month period of the year, once the boat had been "Winterized" after the last trip in the Fall. It's hard to imagine that moving just 100 miles South has allowed me to fish regularly all year long and negate any need to "Winterize" a boat when it's being used once or twice a week....but, I'm definitely counting the days until I can come home from work every day, dump the boat into Clinton, and fish until dark.

Our first trip usually goes south to Lake of the Ozarks these days. Used to be Kentucky Lake but that has faded for us. April is normal for Pool 13. The past few years the water has been really high and raging and muddy. We've learned where to fish in those conditions but for "fun" fishermen it gets more difficult to enjoy rough conditions and poor weather. We have fished the creeks off the Smithland pool, the Mississippi River Pools 8, 9,10, 12, 13, 14 17,19,27 ... the Madison Chain, Wolf River, Truman, Wapapello, Mark Twain, Rend, Clinton, Kincaid, Table Rock, Fox Chain, Shelbyville, Mill Creek, Monroe (Indiana), Stockton, and probably about a dozen others that I can't conjure up at the moment ... Now we are senior fishermen, comfort often exceeds other issues ... we will fish in the rain but not go out in the rain. We don't often fish with layers of clothes and all weather gear - chilly mornings are OK if we can start shedding layers by 10am. But we are planning to hit it again when the spirit moves us and it likely will be mid april- weather permitting.

When the water is 38 deg ... this fisherman is enjoying Irish Mist at room temp ... and giving the bass some space.
