Humminbird transducer mount location?

I have an old 87 gambler. I can't get the transducer to read on plane. Where is everybody mounting their's? My unit is the helix 9si. Thanks

Two transducers. One shoots thru hull, and the other on the jackplate.

Through hull like this? And splitter of course

Yes sir, epoxied into the bilge. Splitter will allow it to
run 2d on the hull and you side/down from the back.
