    Mercury 200XS to 300XS swap

I swapped my engine from my 200 to a 300XS and the boat is completely different to drive

a lot more fun but I am taking it easy to get used to it - running a 1.62 sportmaster with a 28 pitch promax

I am about 2" below pad right now - my detwiler jack plate is running but not going up

I run a 28 promax also. I start of led about 1 in above pad but 100 hp is a major gain! Congrats and send pics

You probably need fluid added in the jackplate. And maybe grease in the sides. Bringing the motor up will help handling by a lot.

How much setback do you have? I think most are running a min of 14" and most are closer to 16".

If it were me, I'd move to 16 and move the engine up one to two holes. Probably gain some speed and better handling.

I put some oil in the reservoir inside my boat and worked it up and down about 4 times, It seems to be working good now that it is full of fluid.

I am counter to most. When I went from a 280SS to a 300XS I found my boat to be more drivable with less set back. I went from 14 to 10 inches. I an no longer after max speed though. The best prop that I have found is a 28 Pro Max 1.25 above the pad. Not fast any more but still runs 94 loaded.

I waited a couple days then tried the jackplate again and not working. I have ordered a new one and I am going to get me a new cranking battery also.

I started out with 14 and the boat ran well. I eventually got one of the Leverage Plates that would go from 14 to 18 inches. I eventually had it set for 15 3/4 which seem to give the best combination of handling, top end, and holeshot. I pulled the Leverage off last year and went to a fixed setback at 15 3/4. More testing to do this year but so far I like where it is at.
