Benefit of AS GR50 GPS Puck

What is the benefit of hooking my old GPS puck from my 898c, to my new Helix 10 MSI G2N at the console of my boat?

If you put it at the transom for a console mounted unit, it gives you GPS location and sonar data at the same place.
That gives you more accurate waypoints based on sonar returns and more accurate contour mapping.

Would it be acceptable to mount it somewhere on the back deck close to the transducer? It will be about 10 inches to a foot from the transducer.

Yes, that is better than farther away. The less error you create, the better your data will be.

Just because I tend to overthink things... Will there be any interference with satellite communication with my mounting location?

Here is where I plan to mount:

Any satellites not directly overhead and to the rear of the boat would have their radio broadcasts blocked. Typically there are enough tracked that it may not be an issue.

Should I move it out on the deck a little ways? My only concern there is getting further away from the transducer.

Where would you suggest to mount? I can provide another picture if necessary.

For that area, beside the anchor light socket.
