    The first stump you idle across . . . . . it's gone.

I saw several installations on bass boats at a show last weekend and that is where the SI transducer was attached.

my concerns were turbulent water coming over the step and yes stumps. I plan on moving this unit to the front and adding a new Solix unit to the bow and want to make sure have the best place to install that transducer. I have a JP and could install there. thoughts?

If you put it on a jack plate it will be farther from the hull bottom and have even more turbulent from water coming off the bottom of the hull (that cavitation thing).
Yes the lower it is, the more exposure to impact damage you have.

The best mount is the Transducer Shield and Saver and wedge for the bottom of a jackplate hole shot plate. IF you jackplate is big enough for that transducer length. It will survive the stumps at Lake Fork better than using the Humminbird transom mount.

Post #23 has that type of installation:

Next best is the same mount with a L bracket on the side of the jackplate, there are some pictures of that type mounting in that topic.

That's were mine is located. Yes, stumps are a threat for sure but in that location I can get good sonar and down images even at 40mph.
