    Small crank reel

Hi all. I’ve been throwing my very small/light crankbaits on spinning gear but recently picked up a GLX CBR781 casting rod that is very light to try out. What reel should I look for? Wondering if the Shimano DC type may make sense to avoid backlashes so common in this situation. I’ve been using Revo winches for the larger stuff just fine.

What do you consider a light crank? If it is around or beneath 1/4 oz I would say look for something designed for that sort of app like a BFS type of reel, Pixy, Alphas SV, Conquest 50, or 50 series reel with ugraded bearings or spool.

Yep that’s what I’m considering. 1/4 ounce range. I throw squarebills on another rod these would all be smaller ones like Fat Rap 4, Deep Tiny N, smaller Shad Raps and the like. Thanks for the list that’s what I was looking for.

Steez CT SV or Alpha CT SV would be my recommendations.

LOL I’m afraid I could end up back there but thought I’d give it a serious go. Seems like a small DC type reel would be ideal, but we shall see.

I know the some of the Titula stuff is no doubt good for light baits. I've used a Lew's MB for casting light jerkbaits which can be a pain with decent results. I turn the mag brakes OFF and seems to work better than with them on.

I wouldn’t use a DC reel for baits around 1/4 oz or lower IMO. They are much better at 3/8 oz and up.

Also don’t forget for a rod you will likely want a ML and probably 8# line to make the system work in all three phases to cast these.

Good to know on the DC. I have a GLX 781CBR ML rod that should pair well around 6-8 pound test and the right reel.
