    NRX 852

You think a 852 is to light for a 1/2oz jig rod open water light cover or would you go to the 853?

I wouldn't use either. 4 power is the way to go.

The 852 is way too light for 1/2 oz. The 853 will do 1/2 oz in a pinch but will feel overloaded but if you bumped up to an 893 it would feel less overloaded. You're probably going to want an 854 or 894 for 1/2 oz.

It all depends on how heavy of a power you like and if you use braid. You can get away with a lighter power rod if you use braid to flouro. I would personally use a 3 power Loomis in your scenario and I like using lighter power rods.

A 1/2 oz jig plus a trailer is about 3/4 oz. The 852 caps at 3/8 oz. The Loomis 853 or 843 Type of Rods will cap around 5/8 to 3/4.

I am wirh the others suggesting the 854 or 894. Despite the label the 873 is more like a four power rod. It would be my choice over the 853.
