Boat carpet leaving little hairs all over the place on the boat.

I had carpet put in my boat about 5 years ago and now I am getting all these little fibers all over the place. Almost like the little fibers are letting go from the carpet. Is there anything that can be done or is it just time to replace again. Boat was a little neglected over the last few years but is getting cleaned up now.

Replace. The rubber backing is breaking down.

I believe it was 20oz carpet from bassboatcarpet.com

Syntec typically is sold in 16 or 24oz weights. They sell 20oz however boat builders don't use 20oz and it is not available from Syntec. I have verified this with Syntec Company.

The 20oz carpet is ok if you are going to sell the boat. If you are keeping the boat for a long time get the Syntec.
I have compared majority of the 20oz shipped free carpets and the results are below,

    20oz shipped free
Ships free but cost more per a foot compared to Syntec
rubber backing is brittle and can see cracks on backing when bending 90 degrees
Individual fibers come loose in time, (example on deck at livewell when you move knees across it)
Can see rubber backing between fibers when bending carpet to fit doors at 90 degree bends
Density of the fibers is thinner compared to Syntec
The white glue is not great for longterm adhesion and in colder weather if applied to thick will seep through carpet fibers

    Syntec
cost less per foot than 20oz shipped free carpet (Bass Cat and Ranger Boats is sells Syntec
Rubber backing is solid and does not crack
Fiber density is 40% more than the 20oz carpet
    last longer
fibers do not come out and does not wear down at front deck or livewells from knees and twisting

This is from my own personal observations from having done countless boat carpet jobs.

BassCat and Ranger both sell Syntec carpet.
