I usually have only one bag to check but they save me from standing in line on the inside so I typically tip them at least $5.00. Money well spent.

I’ll hand him $5 if they are loading it up
and putting the tag on in and putting on the conveyor. Not the person at the counter if I’m
    putting it on the scale

Same here and have never had an issue with baggage not getting to my destination. Normally $10 when flying over Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Went to a bar in Atlanta in 2004. Largest bar in the southeast. Every time you went to the men's room there was a guy who handed you a towel and offered you a cologne or something. Dude worked for tips. After 3 hours of getting primed before the bar and endless rounds I was a steady customer. About the third or fourth trip I told the guy he was getting too expensive to be around.

    Pilots are cheap, real cheap.

Dean, I got called out by an FO a year or so ago for only tipping the van driver a dollar. He told me the norm was $2. My norm is still $1, gets too expensive as much as we travel.

This guy didn’t look like he works hard. I think the folks at the inside check in counter work harder and they don’t get tip.
I guess next time I’ll tip them some.
