Global vs local

I have two HDS7 gen 2 that are linked with an Ethernet cable. If I want to share way points between the units do I need to set both gps to local or global or will they automatically share waypoints since they are connected with the cable. I have both water temps set to local so they read water temp form their own transducer.

The ethernet cable automatically synhronizes all waypoints between connected units that are powered on regardless of any settings.
