    bent prop shaft

I took my boat in for the initial service at 21 hours and the guys in the shop informed that the shaft was bent on a brand new 250 SHO. I told them I had not hit anything. How could it be bent? they said even if you just tap something, it will bend the shaft rather than shearing it off????? $400 to straighten or $800 to replace? any thoughts?

Ask them to show you the runout test. If it is bent, Get a new one!

I'd talk to your insurance company. Since you bought the boat new, and have not hit anything, it must have been defective when you bought it. THEY might have hit the prop shaft when they had it or in shipping. If your prop has no marks on it,I think they are giving you "the Shaft".

Warranty doesn't cove abuse... If it's truly bent, you hit something... Call your insurance man and have them take care of it... Dan

If the prop is perfect I would ask dealer for a new prop shaft for 400, good will on their part.

How do you bump it enough to bend the shaft without incurring any damage on the prop? That seems unlikely. If the prop is perfect, or has negligible tiny dings, how likely is that the prop shaft is bent from hitting something? Something doesn't square there.

^^^^ This! I bought a dial indicator with adjustable arms for checking the prop shaft run out. I check it when I winterize for reference. I know, I'm a little retentive!

I’m a reliability engineer, I never take anyone’s word for it, check it out myself!

I had 2 SHO's and found it didn't take much to bend the prop shaft.

One time it was the slightest of "tick" to a submerged treetop.................

Get a second opinion if you don't trust the shop you took it to. Since it is under warranty.....the cat is out of the bag.

on YouTube the BMP channel he said the exact same thing and even showed his prop rotate
he did say he hit soft wood. I was amazed at the wobble because before the video I haven’t seen
    it before.

I would get a New prop

Prop shaft will bend over time with a out of balance prop. Ran a Trophy+ for 5 years ended up finding water in the lower not a dingy on the prop. Had seals and shaft replaced along with a bnb on the prop.
