I back the drags off and take off all lures, rigs, etc.

If it’s more than a few days I take the baits off and reel the line all the way in. Otherwise if I keep the baits on I use the hook keeper on the rods, make sure the rod is perfectly straight and wrap the line around the rod so it doesn’t get tangled and you don’t get a bend in the rod

Baits attached to hook keeper, line wrapped around guides. Never in my life have I loosened drags when stored and never a single issue with any reel from not doing so.

If the hook has soft plastic on it I remove it. For all other baits I just leave them on the hook keeper but when I reel up the slack in my line I leave it lose. If you reel up the slack line and put too much tension on it there will be a spot on the line as it comes though the tip and down the rod that I just don't like the way it looks. It's almost like it crimps the line so I just leave a little more slack than what most people doing when storing until the next time the rod will be used. The only time I back off the drag is if I take it out of regular usage and I am going to store it long term, such as keeping it as a spare backup reel that may sit for months or a couple years until I need to put it back in service.

Just leave mine, I do put my thumb on the spool, and give it a crank to move the drag.

old ABU 5500C reels instructions say to back off cast control knobs and drags, just became a habit and carried forward with all my daiwa gear, so from Thanksgiving to March 1st, baits and old line is removed, reels wiped down with drags and spool tension knob backed off and ready for a reload come springtime

Bait to hook keeper, TRC rod cover on, then click the button and re-engage to give the line a little slack. Not loosen the drag when I know theyll be sitting unused for a while. Mostly in Winter.

Same way I do mine, I like having new line come spring.
