    Blown hpdi 300 FIXED

Looking at the head the middle cylinder is the one blown it's number four there is oil on both good cylinders none on the blown cylinder do I have a oil issue or is that normal when a cylinder blows I'm hoping just putting in a new piston will fix it there is no scratches in the cylinder wall just some aluminum for the piston 20200116_095453.jpg20200116_095346.jpg20200116_095234.jpg

Yes so I'm not sure if the leaking injector was in that cylinder and the damage was already done before having them fixed or do I have a oil problem

No scratches? Your pictures indicate to me, NOT a Yamaha owner, that you will need more than a piston. There will be no vertical markings on a properly prepared cylinder.

It is smooth nothing you can feel with your finger nail just some aluminum on top of the cylinder but that will come off with easy off and a hone

If a cylinder wall is shot on HPDI can you not just put a new sleeve in that one? That's the problem with SHO's is the "coating" they use on cylinders instead of using traditional steel sleeves...means they can't be fixed and must replace the whole block...doesn't make a lot of sense to me....but I'm old school I guess...

There is nothing to stop anyone from having the cylinder liner on a SHO or Offshore model from being stripped off and a new liner flame sprayed on.

Thanks yam911 I didn't know that. Why do many owners here on BBC talk about trashing their SHO's when they blow wbecause they're quoted over $10000 for a full replacement block? And sorry skeeter2 for maybe getting off your topic...

Is that what they definitively said that the repair would have to consist of, or is that what they said that they would do if they repaired the motor?

Repairs oft times can be done in more than one way. Shop A will do it one way. Shop B might say they will only do it a different way.

Of course if you only have one shop within a certain distance from you, and they will only make the repair their way (and not the way that another shop might do it) you are at a disadvantage.

Yes, but why would someone want to do that? Easy enough to remove the lower unit. Makes removing the power head a bit easier IMO. And will make re-installation of the power head possibly a whole lot easy.

Other than being discolored it is slick as can be no grooves I think it will be fine after honing it out 20200118_122215.jpg20200118_122211.jpg

Yes. The bolts are behind the reed blocks/intake.
