    My 1996 Honda CR build.

Little backstory, my best friend and I were riding 125's through high school. When we graduated we wanted 250's. So I got a 1997 KX 250 and he got this CR250. We rode the heck out of those bikes. He got a new one in 2004 and the CR got passed around the family for years until it had a shifting issue and was parked in the back yard for years. In 2014 he was killed in a crash. Last year his dad wanted me to help clean his yard up and was wanting me to haul it off. I asked if I could have it. I spent a few months rebuilding it including frame repairs, new crankshaft, transmission bearings, cables and such.

    When I picked it up.20180106_162915.jpg

I had to cut parts out of the lower frame tubes and weld some inner tubes in then fill the low spots in. Sand blasted and powder coated.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Grew up on dirt bikes but there weren't any 4 strokes in the early 70's. My favorite was a Husky WR250 but the 400 was a mean S.O.B.!!!

    Nice job on the rebuild.

Real sorry to read of the loss of your Friend, My Condolences to you and his family.
You did an awesome job with the CR. I had one a LONG time ago, Red two stroke.. I would love to rebuild something like this but just don't have the confidence to take a motor apart.
How did it go after the rebuild ?

    Sorry about your friend.

Nice job rebuilding the 96 CR250R and getting it going again! Last year of the steel frames before Honda screws it up with the 97-99 aluminum frames. I had a 93, 95, 98, 00, 01, and an 02 CR250R. They’re some fun, fast two stroke bikes!

Thanks guys! It went great after the rebuild, starts up 1-3 kicks, shifts perfect, will run low gear all day with the gearing. Even his dad rode it once and was like it was new. Every time I take it out its a good day!

Sorry about your buddy, Kevin, but what a great tribute and way of remembering him in bringing that old CR back to life.

From an old usterwas MX'er… Very, very cool.

Sorry about your buddy. Good looking rebuild. That will be a special bike for you for years to come. Have you taking it over to your friends Dad and let me see it yet? I bet he would appreciate it.

Yes,I did. We went riding just after I got done and he took it for a lap. He was very emotional about it. We both had some kind of water in our eyes that day.

You did a good job; he would have loved it. I have a '94 that I ride once a year if my son is free. I also have a '68 Sachs I bought new that runs great. Had a few Huskys and an Ossa back in the day. Used to ride the desert on a Triumph in the mid 60s.

Kevin you did an awesome job on the rebuild. I had a 2000 CR250, and had a love hate relationship with the bike, but I would love to find another one and rebuild it to new again. Mine had over 150 hours on the original clutch before I fried it at a race. The bike was tuff as nails, and would always start on the 1st kick.
