Would it be more stable than a comparable sized ranger, such as my old R71?

Not sure I’ve never fished out of that model Ranger.

I haven't been in an R71, but I switched to my current 181 from a 374V. The 374V was like fishing off of a dock. You could stand on the gunwale and it would barely tip to one side. I paid for that in ride though. After a day fishing in rough water, I felt like I needed to go get my back checked out... And I am not even 30 years old. The 181 will tip more side to side if you are fishing when a wake passes. It is very predictable however, and even on lakes with a lot of wake surfers, I havent taken on water. I'd think the Ranger would have in some of those situations, because it DIDNT tip side to side as much (if that makes any sense). The champion obviously beats the ranger in ride, no question about that. All in all, the 181 is a great hull.

Not even a little bit close.
