Depends on the type of water you fish.

Ultrex hands down. Not even a thought. Just got my boat with the Ultrex this past fall and discovered I was stupid to wait 2 years. It's awesome.

Ultrex 100%. Been fishing outta family members 1980 Vexus with the 80# 45 inch Ultrex and absolutely fell in love with it. He has 8ft Power poles as well but 90% of time used just the Ultrex. Loved it so much I just ordered an Ultrex for my boat today. I would highly recommend contacting one of the board sponsors for the best price, saved several hundred dollars by doing so. Two of the three I contacted were within 15 bucks of each other. Also if you use PayPal you can get 6 months no interest. They said I should have it by next week.

Ulrtex gets my vote. You can always find someone looking to upgrade their electronics so I think you will always find a deal on them where find a good deal and they are much easier and cheaper to ship.

If it was a choice and I only had a old flasher I would deal with it in order to have a Ultrex, Far less fatigue fishing, greater concentration to fishing, I think an ultrex helps you catch more fish than any electronics upgrade. However I learned many years ago to use a flasher to its fullest, I actually prefer a flasher when fishing deep and vertical with spoons or drop shotting
    Thank You Leon Pugh

I would recommend upgrading the electronics to find fish better and then the ultrex to stay on them.
No, only Humminbird is compatible with the Ultrex. All that gives you is more storage or WPs and routes, the ability to follow a contour line and go to a WP on your graph. You say spotlock is the “only” benefit over a Fortrex but don’t underestimate the value of that benefit. I’ll never be without it again. You don’t know how useful it is until you use it.
