I have a question for the Rt188 guys that have updated their starting battery. I was thinking about going to a bigger starting battery and was wondering if you guys had any issues installing a large starting battery in the cramped space? I’m looking at the 31 AGM Duracell at Sam’s Club. I only will be running 2 Helix 12 G3 units so is this super heavy battery an overkill for what I’m needing? Thanks....

A larger battery is never overkill in my opinion. Use the largest battery that you can fit in your boat. I have yet to hear anyone say they wish they had less battery power.
I cut the sides off the factory boxes and stuffed two Duracell 31 AGM's for the Ultrex, and a 27 Duracell AGM for the starting battery.
The setup seems to work very well.

I put two 31 size Duracells from Sam's club in there for the trolling motor. There is an Optima back there for the Yamaha but will replace it with a Duracell when and if it ever dies. With the Optima, I have room left over.

If it's a 2019 you will have to do a lot of work. Just standard trays only three group 27 will fit.
What did they change back there from 2017?
I just changed mine to a group 31. Had to remove the tray and cut the side out of it.

Just put 3 31’s in my rt188. The th marine trays I ordered had to be modified by cutting the mounting tabs off the ends. I’m sure there’s a tray that will work out there but it worked out great. You may need to slightly move some hoses and wiring also.

Bass Cat trays and 3 group 31's in a 2016 RT188. Lost an mph or two but worth it.
Awesome, thanks for the replies. I bought the 31 series starting battery already. I’m thinking about moving the wires around and put the heavy battery in the center for better weight balance. We shall see....thanks again.
