Question helix 10 taking in water after a rain storm please help!!!!!!

I wanted to get your insight on an issue with my Helix 10.
The unit was previously worked on at Humminbird because my GPS went out.
I have been using my unit fine after the fix with zero issues,
but a couple days ago, I was out prefishing and got caught in a rain storm.
THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE UNIT WAS IN THE RAIN and
the graph worked fine but as I was getting off the water, I powered it down
and it showed the "shut off 3-2-1" and the screen went dark
in the parking lot. I noticed the graph was on again so I turned it off again and
drove home and the graph was on again when I got home.
So I started to investigate and notice some water around the buttons
    dripping down.
I then unplugged the unit and wiped it down and opened the card slot and
both cards were wet and so I removed them and tilled the graph and water started dripping out the card slots.

Water had gotten into the unit (and no the card slot was not open).
I called Hummingbird and explained the problem and they said to send it in with $250.00.
I haven't paid or called Humminbird back yet because I wanted to get your perspective.

After talking to my partner and many of my tournament friends, they said
there is no reason for the unit to take on water EVER and they should take care of me because it sounds like the unit wasn't sealed right after being worked on.

Thanks in advance for your feedback
I have been fishing for 35 years and have owned 4 bass boats and they all had Humminbird units.
I have never had an issue like this and Hummingbird has always treated me well without issue.

Had the same thing happen to me. Sent mine back and was replaced.

The one missing piece of information is: How old is the unit?

    How long after the repair?

HB is very good about taking care of customers, but we shouldn't expect them to warrant a unit forever.

the repair was less then a year old and units should not fill with water period no matter how old they are...

Payed shipping and that was it. It was still under warranty.

Should never take water, no matter how old? What if you bounce an ounce and a half punch weight off the screen? Ask me about that! I didn't expect HB to cover.

How about hanging a 997 on a tree at an alarming high rate of speed?

The point I'm trying to make is that HB is very good at taking care of its customers, but there are limits.

Hope everything works out. Honesty, as always, is the recommend procedure.
