Cked out a 1980 VEXUS Tin

At the Murray Ky boat show. Very neatly executed.
Love the big glass line compartments. Looks like
they would be dry. Love the fact there is no overhanging
lip to interfere with the stowing of gear. If you want to put
a tote in a box, you can do so w/o losing one speck of
room because of the lip around the top of the compartments.
Lots of companies should take a lesson from VEXUS. LUND
    in particular. LDS

They are dry, but you will get condensation on the underside of the lid. Possibly enough to drip and cause mold. Ask me how I know.

This is true unfortunately, I forget the BBC tin member's name, (I apologize) that owns a ranger tin I believe, and they devised a clever basic ventilation system. Tin boat makers should take note of this.

I agree. One mistake I made was not covering the brace on the bottom of the lid, it condensed moisture even after the rest of the lid was insulated. I did the same thing on my bilge lid and the brace dripped water on my batteries. It continues to amaze me at how persistent this problem is.
Insulating the lids solved the majority of the problem, but there were conditions where moisture would condense on the tackle boxes. It all depends on the dew point of the air trapped in the compartments. If the temp of surfaces inside the compartment drop below the dew point, it will condense moisture from the trapped air. The forced ventilation stabilizes the temperature and dew point inside and outside the compartments.
I noticed that Vexus painted the underside of their lids, that too should help with the condensation. I included a pic of an older Triton aluminum lid with black felt under the lid, it seemed to work as well as insulation.
One very important point: this only deals with condensation. If your compartments get wet from rain or other reasons, you have to unload them, open them up and dry with fans and completely remove that moisture. I always do this after fishing in the rain.

i was just at a local bat show and they had Ranger tin boats there, some of the welding was just horrible especially around the transom. The pieces did not fit together so they built up some of the ugliest welds I have ever seen the rest of the welds on the transom were just as bad. Even there good welds were not near what my Crestliner welds are, they are smooth and very consistent Ranger only consistency were they all looked ugly and uneven. I expected more from Ranger.

Well you cant see it with the foam but I am curious if there is still condensation between the aluminum and liner.

highly doubt it. The foam insulates the aluminum, and I can't see condensation forming between the foam and aluminum. How, when the foam is tightly glues to lid? No room in between lid and foam.

The person I spoke w/owned one of the 1980s and was very happy w/it.
I was looking at the hugh rear compartments w/lust. He said they could be
used as a cooler because they were foamed all around and underneath.
There is a lot to be said, for simple engineering that will permit putting
anything in a storage box that is the same size as the storage box, because
of 100% access to the entire container. LDS

I could go over on the VEXUS boat and tell them how PURDY
my new LUND is. I'm sure they would be most appreciative.

I expected a ranger and got something else. BUT it's a great fishing boat so I'm not sure about selling it yet. I also have a good dealer vrs the Vexus dealer close to me.
