When you want up to 2' more depth (6') or a larger profile. Yes I have had plenty of luck on it. More than the 8.0, but I have cut a 8.0 bill in half and it runs great like that

I use it in the spring when the water is usually a little higher and dirtier. Caught a lot of nice fish with it.
