Best Jack Plate Size for Coral 202 - 225 Johnson Venom?

I have a 97 Viper Coral 202. The motor is getting rebuilt now. Looking to add a jack plate, but not sure what size to put on it. Will a manual jack plate do the job, or should I spend the extra money to get a hydraulic one? My son has been tournament fishing since 7th grade and will be fishing the Bassmaster College Series next year. Looking to put this on while the motor is off of the boat. Also this will allow me to add power poles. Also, the boat had a 4 blade Michigan Wheel prop. Looking to get a 3 blade and add a little more speed. What do you suggest?

I'm sure a manual jack plate will do the job. I went with a 10" hydraulic and I'm glad I did just to play with and experiment with. I like the hole shot of the Trophy 4 blade but but I'm not concerned about speed either. Elevation is killer for me so hitting 60 is plenty fast. I've never seen sticks on a Coral. You'll have to show some pics!

If you do a search you will find a bunch of prop discussions for corals. The consensus seems to be that you need a good amount of Stern lift to get these boats to perform their best. Personally, and I think this was true for most, a 4 blade ended up being the best prop. I'm running a trophy plus right now and it is by far the best performing prop I've tried on my Coral. I haven't had the chance to try many though.

I found that a 3 blade Tempest prop was a couple of mph faster than my present 4 blade Power Tech TRO4, but the 4 blade has better hole shot, handling, and less slippage at mid range (especially with added cup). I would think that lack of bilge space might be a problem when adding the power poles.

Most everything I researched suggested a 25p Tempest + 3 blade. That is what I put on mine. Im chasing the speed numbers I keep seeing guys post up and simply don’t believe them. I run 62 with a 36v ultrex and loaded for fishing, 1/2 tank fuel and empty wells. My prop is on its way to Mark as my slip numbers are higher than I think can be achieved. With poles you may need the 4 blade prop for stern lift. I could see 70mph stripped.

Mines was with a 10" jackplate,1.5" below the pad ,10psi water pressure, omc 24v tm,half tank of fuel. My max speed with the stock 6" plate was 69mph same set up. 73mph when i switched to a 10" jackplate. That 36v Ultrex is alot heavier than the omc i had. I wish i still had the boat.

Dang, 1.5” below! I was scared to go so high. Guess when my prop gets back i will have to raise it 1/4 by 1/4” and see what gives. Last time i put it at 3” when it broke over it would slip real bad before bitting again so dropped it back to 3.5. Im running a 10” jack plate as well. 225 opti.

Quick question for the guys with 10” setback. Did you need to change steering, throttle or shift cables? My 202 came from the factory without a plate. Was debating between a 6 or an 8 as I’d rather not have to change cables. I found an amazing deal on a 10” slide master though. Thank you
