Back from Gaston!!! Great time!!! And a good one.

As yall know we went to Gaston for 5 days. The weather was almost perfect. Hard to believe it was 75 one day.

We started off the first day heading way up the river from the 85 bridge all the was up to the last creek close to Kerr. We caught a couple on jerkbaits but not all that exciting. So with the advice of some others on here I went way down lake and di not catch anything besides 1 on Easton ferry bridge. I just do not know the water very well down there and get my arse handed to me every time. So I talked to a friend of mine and he said he was catching a few deep in 20-25 fow. So I gave that a shot and things picked up. we caught about 12-15 one day and then the next day we only fished for 2-3 hours and caught about 8 or so. AND 1 WAS A GIANT IN MY BOOK. My brother caught it and it was 6.25lbs. So all in all I was happy with the fishing.

So now on to another subject. We were fishing an area and ended up catching about 10 fish in about 15 minutes, but these fish were not normal to me. They looked like a smallmouth but they could not have been. They had the white tip on the gills and tiger stripes. I think they were mean mouth but don't know for sure. Are there mean mouth in Gaston? I have fished Gaston a lot the last couple years and have never seen this. I have attached a picture of the meanmouth and of the 6.25 lb large mouth. Please send and thoughts.

    Happy fishing!!!

A friend pulled up to a dock in a tourny and caught a largemouth a spotted bass and a Smallmouth in popular creek lol. Meanmouth are in there. Bo Bandy caught one close to 5lbs 2 years ago in peahill. But the spots have exploded in there.

I was trying to post JinxBass pictures right side up.

I managed that, but some how his sideways pictures tagged along.

The spots in Gaston all have that look to them....Sorta unique look to Gaston spots compared to what I see in other lakes, but Gaston is the only place I go frequently that has them so could be wrong. Been catching spots regularly there since 2013 or 2014 or so, but the last 3 years the population has exploded...Really fun addition to the lake IMO.

Rick Morris used to brag about carrying those spots from The Coosa River back home to Gaston...
