    Cleaning up trailer threads

    What size die would I need to clean up burrs on a

    • 1-3/8" - 1-1/16" spindle axle.

    Not sure what thread count.. If you can get another nut sometimes you can use it to clean up the spindle.. use some cutting oil or light wt mtr oil... tighten it until it gets hard.. back it off to clean any loose pieces--- repeat until it will thread on. A thread file will also work..

    If you have a "Castle Nut" you can reverse it with the "castle" end going on first, and it will act as a die and clean up the threads. Turn it until it gets hard, back off, wire brush those threads, then start again. Repeat until the threads are clean.

    Proper way to chase stud threads and associated tap to clean up lug nuts. The 1/2-20 UNF is the size on my Ranger.

    I thought we were asking about the spindle, not the hub lugs.

    Yep. Screwed that up.
    The thread file Larry linked above is the best option for the spindle.
