    Advent 3.5 God is faithful PTL

    The Psalms were the hymnbook of the ancient church. Like many modern hymnbooks, they were divided into sections by topic. The last 5 Psalms offer a fitting end: praise the Lord for what He has done in the previous Psalms:

    Psalm 146:3-6

    3
    Do not trust in princes,
    In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
    4When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
    on that very day their plans come to nothing..
    5How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
    Whose hope is in the LORD his God,
    6Who made heaven and earth,
    The sea and all that is in them;
    The LORD, who remains faithful forever.

    v3. In spiritual matters, don't trust man (including the one in the mirror). Trust in God and His Word/promises.
    v5 Now we're in the right spot. God fulfilled His many promises to Jacob, to others, and to us. The big promise: Cleansing our sins. Don't look to man for reassurance, look to the blood stained cross and empty tomb.*
    v6. God's credentials and His faithfulness. LORD= covenant name, the God of the promise. The God who promises to be with, protect, and forgive us even when we're less than holy (ahem),

    *"Ye who think of sin but lightly, Nor suppose the evil great. Here may view its nature rightly, Here its guilt may estimate. Mark the Sacrifice appointed, See who bears the awful load; Tis the Word, the LORD'S ANNOINTED, Son of Man and Son of God."
