Yup, saw the original prototype tested by Storie, Pace and my dad at Canfield on lake Norfork. Little rockets with 150's. They were the last attempt at the short wide boats until the 90 inch beams came out in the mid 90's.

The reason why I ask is because I just bought a 1979 Mean 15. For some reason, I have always loved these boats. This is the first boat I ever rode in when I was about 4 years old.

If it’s one of the 140 rated hulls a 135 merc is a boss rig.

Mine is rated for a 115. Although, I know they still fly with that motor.

Have 1986 Mean 15 with 1986 Mercury 90 & just install a MotorGuide Tour Digital 82lbs of thrust trolling motor (literally creates a wake behind the boat, lol) new carpet, 2 new garmin's. Get 42mph with the new prop. Installed a new 3 bank charger & had every nick taken care of on the hull. I love this boat, easy to trailer & can handle rough water as good as any boat up to 19'. only thing it lacks is rod storage for today's longer style rods. Had a chance to by a 20' Skeeter 2 months ago with a 200hp & sell the Champion. Well I still have the Champion & glad.
    Enjoy!

    Glad you kept the Champion!
