    Central Flyway Duck Reports

Oklahoma seems to be too far south for mallards this year.
i assume they are still up in Nebraska and Northern Kansas.
Anybody up there with good duck numbers?

Were you bow or rifle hunting? Can non-resident get a bow tag in Kansas?
    Did you tag one there?

Excellent. 2 of our party of 4 scored some nice bucks on public land. 10 and 11 points with great spread and mass. Lots of deer got shot opening day all around us. My luck continues to be the not so hot category. I spent 4 full days and three half days, hiked 40+/- miles and didn’t pull the trigger.
Emptied my gun to cross a public dirt road to scurry down it 100 yards to cross into the next section to cut some deer off I glassed only to see a buck cross the road 60 yards from me as I approached. Off he went. I watched him on the private land lolly gag and browse all over the hillside. Saw lots of deer. Loved being outside and with nature and good friends back in my home state. The flint hills are beautiful. I will try again next year in my 4th season at 64. I will try and pull an archery tag to get out early and scout for rifle.

    Your assumptions would be incorrect.

There isn't much for ducks north of I-80, so if you're looking for ducks...look east! Here in MN, ND, SD, WI...we lost most of our ducks by the first week of November this year. Simply, a little weather and better habitat and conditions led them out. This year was also the first in well over a decade I had to leave Minnesota's open duck season to head south to kill more ducks.

But, there may be hope yet! With the mild weather, you may get birds coming back before your seasons close.

Of course there are always some locations that get birds, but they have been slim when I hunted. The action is on or behind a front. Then they are gone.
