    Garmin Force Anchor Performance

The head is rotating too often, partially due to too much thrust (when Gain is set to minimum) for a light boat.

And seems it doesn’t know how to compensate the wind (about 4 mph), which was constantly blowing from the bow direction. It even tried to push in the wind direction.

    It’s noisy, isn’t it?

Garmin still has some way to go!

    A new one:
    See the increasing distance difference?

This explains why the head is always rotating. In other words, the TM ALWAYS thinks there’s a distance difference even though there’s not!

What was the furthest distance the boat moved from the anchor point during your test?

    Roughly 3 feet.

In an average of 5 minutes, I think it’s within 3 feet, pretty accurate.

However, I forgot to say above, in a longer time, say 30 minutes, the “anchor point” would gradually shift away by several feet, but the remote (as it shows the distance difference) thinks it still has accurate spot. Not sure why yet. In my crappie fishing yesterday, I had to use the Jog function every 30 minutes or so to manually correct this. Probably a software bug.

In techie language, the feedback loop lacks sufficient hysteresis.

Yes! And for Gain 1, overshoot causes oscillations or swings.

Is the "Gain 1" setting similar to the Minn Kota boat scale setting?

Don't have a Garmin Tmotor and just trying to follow the conversation.

    Thanks

I think so, it’s called Anchor Gain.

Imo 4mph is not enough wing. You can stay there on your own.

This is exactly the problem I'm having. The spot lock does not hold nearly precisely as my MinnKota. My main problem is like you said, the spot lock position seems to shift over time and you end up farther or closer to your target. This is very problematic when fishing around standing timber. The Force hardware seems to be bombproof. I think once they get the software tweaked that we will have the best unit on the water.

No way for an aluminum boat (bass tracker); otherwise I would not bother to buy a new motor.

I was using the latest version 2.3. I believe Garmin is still working on it.

Damn I think that is louder than my old Terrova was. Surely something is wrong with that one.
