    Jacob Wheeler World Championship

Got to admit I have been a BPT supporter from the start. But this was pretty bad. Watched Jacob Wheelers YouTube channel show about his win. It was filmed in secret I think. He caught a lot of nice fish. So many that other anglers crowded in on him during the last periods. Made for some interesting comments. He wins and comes on the sound stage with No One around and gets this Huge trophy.

I couldn't believe it. No Big presentation. No fans just the production people standing around.

Maybe they will green screen fans in for the TV show.

If the roar of the crowd is part of your motivation then the BPT is not for you.

I don't get the fascination with having a big crowd to cheer on a guy getting a fishing trophy.

I think the cheering is more from knowledgeable fans who have an appreciation of what catching fish like that takes. There's probably also some fascination with the fantasy of also catching some like that someday.

Imagine someone handing the super bowl trophy to the winning team in an empty stadium?

There was a baseball game last year with no one on the stands, it was awkward to watch.

Receiving a trophy in a full arena has to be a cool experience such as in the Bassmaster classic. Being presented a trophy in a parking lot with a couple hundred people sitting in lawn chairs and on picnic benches is a different matter.

I wonder if it made a difference to Jacob or his sponsors?

So this is what we have descended to in terms of finding a reason to bash?

Mark IS right - y'all are going to kill the sport if the nitpicky stuff continues. It's almost like watching a slow motion train wreck take out pro fishing.

I don't believe that was a BPT event. I'm pretty sure it was the MLF World Championship. The MLF event locations are/were a secret so no fans expected.

BPT events are a little different as the pros know where they are fishing ahead of time and so do the fans. That's not to say that the BPT even crowds have been particularly large, generally they have been pretty tame. But it is no surprise that MLF events have ZERO fans since there location is secret, even to the pros.

Kinda sucks but that's part of the deal.

Bass fishing will never die... Now a certain league may not survive but that's a different topic... Dan

As an angler, it must suck to win with no crowds or holding fish up on the stage. If anyone has ever held up a nice limit on a stage with a crowd it is a great feeling. I couldn't imagine the adrenaline rush on the Classic stage. Not being on a stage with fans is one of the reasons swindle cited for leaving

So the fans will kill the sport because they don't like how all the pros went to a Minnow League? Sorry, but I don't get your reasoning

Correct. Some reality tv fishing show loaded with primadonnas may disappear, but it will be their own fault.
