Another " which oil thread" 😊

Recently acquired 1993 Evinrude 175 Intruder.
not real sure what oil was run through it.
The OMS/VRO is still hooked up.
Would I be okay to run a full synthetic or should I run a blend?
    any to shy away from?
    Thanks!

Older motor might be throwing money away running synthetic. I would use syn gear lube though.

I run BRP XD100 in my 94 150 Intruder. Great performance and burns very clean. As far as something more economical, blends are cheaper.

I’d run Pennzoil XLF or Premium Plus in the motor.

I may be biased but I like XD50 for engine oil and HPF Pro in the lower units.

Just curious, do you recommend the XD50 for the older motors or all Evinrude's, the reason I ask is I was planning on switching to XD100 for my 2010 E-Tec.

XD50 was designed for the FICHT generation Engines it has been renamed from the original Ram oil. It is a semi-synthetic blend and has Carb X as an additive. It is fine for the DFI engines and all carb engines whether premix or using the VRO. I just find XD50 more cost effective in the older engines. XD100 should be used in the ETECs. It will burn much cleaner.

If I remember my owners manual correctly XD-50 shouldn't be used when air temps.are below 32 degs.

I run the XD 50 in my 1996 Johnson fast strike 150. Way less smoke and the plugs always look good. I pre mix, VRO gone. Running the dual inline fuel pump system. So much better for me.
