    piston carbon

Bought a ranger with a 250 sho . The last owner said he idled a lot. When I winterized it noticed some carbon on the top of the pistons. Is there a safe way to get rid of it.

Just run ring free as recommended and proper octane rating fuel. Also make sure you are running at the top of recommended RPM. Some carbon or blackening is normal in my opinion.

I'd run 5800-6000k. 5500 seems quite low even though your within book spec.

Come spring, maybe shoot some ring free in the cylinders. Crank a couple times. Let 'er sit overnite. Then take her out and run the piss out of her following day.
