Osb. Drive a nail today and it will still be there years from now. If you need access for extra wiring later , just pull a few nails and you are in, with no patching when you are done.

We are in the process of building our house and 1/2 of our garage will be unfinished and I was planning on putting up OSB and then pallet boards over top to give it a rustic look.

If you want a cheap route just tear down some pallets and line it with that wood. I just finished mine 28x30 it was a good bit of work but with some help of a good sawzall the pallets broke down pretty easily. Looks like a hardwood floor on the wall.

per your description "a shop full of junk" hang whatever is the cheapest...........

oh and metal would surely be nice and durable but hanging stuff on the walls would be a pain in the a__ especially if you move it (holes)

Install insulation then cover with white peg board. Its cheaper, Offers more utility and looks better. It might not be as well insulated when complete but its good enough (for me anyway).

Bottom 3 or 4 feet of galvanized metal siding and mold resistant drywall for the rest.

If you live in an area with building codes, you may need to check what they allow/ require. If not, I’d go with white metal. OSB or plywood and paint as second choice.

Normal roofing metal is 28 or 29 gauge. I just built a pole-barn with 26 gauge and love it. 26 gauge is much stronger. You can get sheets cut to length, to match your wall height.

Price of OSB and sheet-rock is high and I think will be as much or more than metal.

OSB smooth side out and painted. Our original garage is sheet rocked but when I added my new garage I definitely didn't want drywall again.

I've looked at some type of paneling but it is just as expensive as sheetrock. If any of you have painted OSB, how did it turn out?
PM me your phone number and I'll text you pics of osb painted white.

I finished the inside of my camp several years ago with T1-11 siding and left it bare. I can screw stuff to the walls and move it around and it's not that noticeable. Kind of like OSB but looks a smidge better.
