HDS units

I currently have an HDS-7 & 8, Gen. 2 units. (Non-touch) with an Lss-1 side scan box. I was told that I could remove the head units and hook up HDS, Gen 2 or 3 touch units to the existing wiring. Will carbon or live units work also? Thanks

Yes they would.
Just keep in mind that there is a shift in software around HDS Gen 3. HDS Gen 3 on latest software works well with other Gen 3, Carbon and Live. HDS Gen 3 with older software works well with Gen 3 and older generations (like your units). So if you keep one of your units, and go to Carbon or Live, the Carbon/ Live will revert to legacy mode if networked with ethernet to the old unit. You can offcourse get a Carbon/ Live and skip ethernet to the older unit until that as well has been replaced.

If you upgrade from Gen 2 (non-touch) to a touch unit, you could remove the structure scan module and wire straight to the head unit.
