Congratulations to him. He will get the opportunity to pursue RASP in OSUT so long as he pushes himself. If not, there will be chances for him in the future if sticks with it, especially if he gets a quick deployment or two in and gets tabbed up. Best of luck to him. Regiment is a hard life, but its worth it.

We like Clarksville TN. Had a home outside FT Bragg as we thought we'd retire there. Sold it to buy a home here and a farm for recreation once we decided to stay here. Never regretted that decision. Yes I was SF for 24 years. Retired out of C/3rd Bn/5th GP.

Did RASP replace RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program)? I spent 20 years in the light infantry (86-90, then 97-2013), all active duty.

RASP is different than Rsnger school. RASP is Ranger assessment program school. It is to see if you have what it takes to be in the 75th Ranger Regiment. Ranger school is a leadership school. At least that is how I understand it.

I know what Ranger school is. But I've never heard of RASP. It sounds like they changed the name of RIP to RASP. RIP was a program or course that lasted about 3 weeks that a new soldier could attend after airborne school. Those who graduated RIP went on the one of the Ranger Battalions.

As far as I know RASP is assessment to join the 75th Ranger Regiment. You are probably spot on in regards to RIP and going to Ranger Regiments. I'm clueless honestly. I believe the option 40 is for the 75th regiment.

I agree with you on the Option 40. I know a guy who just got out of the Army this year and he said that he came in under Option 40. He passed airborne school but failed RASP. So he got orders to 10th Mountain Division instead of an airborne assignment. He did his initial 3 year enlistment and got out. He said it seems like everyone who chooses Infantry is enlisted under Option 40.

RASP replaced RIP years back. RASP is for E5s and below and is 8 weeks long. Officers and E6+ go to RASP 2 which 3 weeks long.

He could go there after OSUT. He doesnt have a base guarantee.

Yes, 10 years at Fort Drum with a tour to Afghanistan in 06-07.
