The days are getting shorter and shorter so I picked Gary up Tuesday morning about 5:30. At straight up 7am we were backing the boat in at Campbell Point. Water temp was 54* and the air temp was close to that. The water was slightly stained and had a visability of 4 or 5 feet. The wind was dead calm when we launched but by early afternoon was howling pretty good. We always look for a shallow bite first but we knew at least part of the day would be dedicated to the deep spoon or ice jig bite. We caught a few on a jerk bait and on a crank bait but they were few and far between. The fish were really keying on shad. They were busting them on top all over the lake but they were scattered and hard to keep up with. Finally in the early afternoon we decided to go out and find an active school somewhere deep. We had been seeing lots of fish on the graphs all morning but could not get a bite started. Finally about 2:30 we found an active school that wanted to play so we parked on top of them and hammered out several 11-14" bass in pretty short order. We ended the day at one of our favorite spots this time of year and was able to put another handful of chunky bass in the boat before we quit. It got to be dark thiry way too fast.....
