    How much gear oil fits in an outboard

    Am looking to change the gearcase oil in my 175hp johnson faststrike, does anybody know how much oil I need for the lower unit?

    In 11 years of owning my Evinrudes I have yet to ever get 33oz. of oil in my lower units even after letting them drain overnight.

    I know they call for 33 ounces but I always use a quart (32oz) and mine will push gear oil out the top hole just as my quart is getting empty.
