    Tandem Axle Trailers, Rotate tires?

Is it a good idea to rotate the tires on a tandem axle?

If yes, front to back, crisscross? use the spare tire in the rotation?

    thx

I don’t see any reason to. Tires wear evenly unless something is wrong with the suspension.

I pull a lot of miles. And normally rotate keeping them on the same side.

Over 20 yrs with tandems, never. Granted, I don't trailer a lot, but think you'd have to trailer A LOT to justify rotating.

"A lot" might be an understatement.
Fished the same tournament trail for 23 years where the closest tournament is 124 miles from my home the rest are over 400. That's only one trail, and doesn't count pre-fishing or the opens I haul to.

The front tires scrub a little more than the rear, so I have rotated them but honestly not sure it makes any difference in tire wear. For me, tires need replacing due to age more than wear out due to mileage.

Yes, if your trailer is towed at the correct height the fronts are the ones that get scrubbed on turns. It will extend the tire set life. Front to Rear, Rear to Front always keep them turning the same direction.

I went through my stock carlies in 19k no rotation other than needing the spare (killed all 5 tires evenly)
I went through my first set of endurance in 26k rotating front to back twice
i am in my second set of endurance and have 26k with 10-12k more expected, rotated criscros and threw the spare in at 12k...

mayhave done a suspension upgrade this year but most miles on this set are with the end of the original suspension.

Every few thousand miles! You should also be checking hubs and bearings at the same time. Preventative maintenance.

Tire rotation practice should be dependent on if you have brakes on both axles.

Exactly. Can be the difference between finding a problem at home or on the side of the road. Personally i hate repairs on the side of the road.

I rotate them when they need replaced, otherwise just do maintenance every year. CJ
